Structural members

This is a column supporting a long spanning rafter, designed to reinforce the connection between the two UB beams at the ridge. Haunching as seen above is also used for this same purpose, and in this case is approximately 10-15% in length of the total rafter span.

On a closer view you can see that the two UB beams are connected by bolted end plates. Also in this photo the roofings insulation and safety mesh are apparent.

Fly bracing is used in long span construction to connect the rafter to the roof purlins, it allows for uniformity within the structure and are useful in the resistance of wind loading.
